INTERACTIVE PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Parent/Child Interactive Programs is designed for parents and their child(ren) six months -5 years old to meet and socialize other parents and children and to share parenting ideas. The focus is on teaching age appropriate activities that the parents, in addition to their child(ren) can duplicate at home. Classes run during the school year Monday through Friday for 1 hour, and we serve 60 families every 10 weeks. Classes will begin September 08 at Bldg 192.

Playtime with Baby:

For infants and toddlers 6 months – 2 years old. This program meets on Monday through Friday. The objective is to provide an opportunity for parents and their infants/toddlers to meet others, socialize, and share parenting ideas.



Tiny Tots:

For children 2-3 years old. The objective is to provide an early preschool setting with circle time, games, crafts, learning stations, stories, and play with a classroom atmosphere while still feeling the security of a parents’ presence. Mondays 9:15-10:15, Tues/Thurs/Fri 8:30-9:30

Kinder-Time:

For children 3-4 years old. This program meets Tues/Thurs/Fri from 9:45 am – 10:45 am and Wed 9-10. The objective is to provide a preschool environment with circle time, games, crafts, learning stations, stories, and play while encouraging parent/child learning and
social time.

Kinder-Ready:

For children 4-5 years old. The objective is to help parents prepare their child for kindergarten by introducing the alphabet, shapes, colors, seasons, opposites, and calendar skills. Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 10:45-11:45 and Wed 10:15-11:15.

Summer:

Designed for children 3 – 5 years and their parents, the Summer Program is held Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am and 10:30 am – 11:30 am starting in July and ending in August. The objective of the program is for the children and their parents to come together to participate in age appropriate activities and to socialize during the summer.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Operation Hero:

An after-school tutoring & mentoring program for children in 2nd – 6th grade that meets twice a week for 10 weeks at Condor Elementary and Twentynine Palms Elementary Schools from September-May of each year. The objective of the program is designed especially for military children to assist with homework, independent reading and fun age appropriate activities. Approximately 20 unduplicated children participate in each 10-week session.

Kids Care Club:

An after school enrichment program for children who have participated in the Operation Hero Program. The children meet every Friday for 10 weeks at Condor Elementary and Twentynine Palms Elementary Schools. The objective of the program is to introduce giving and caring for others by choosing a community project to work on. The children create gift items and cards for veterans, the elderly, children in need and those wounded in Iraq. This program initially starts out with 10 children in the first 10-week session and then continues to grow as the children complete Operation Hero.

Fitness and Fun:

An interactive, entertaining, and fun program for children 1 – 5 years old, whose parents attend fitness classes at the Community Center BLDG 1004 aboard the base. The children are entertained while their parent’s workout. Fitness and Fun is a year round program and we serve approximately 15 children per day, Monday- Friday.

Family Assistance:

Designed for military personnel and/or their families to receive assistance in the form of gift certificates from the commissary or exchange. To qualify these individuals/families must have exhausted all other means of assistance. We serve approximately three individuals and/or their families per month. The Family Assistance program is also designed to assist military personnel and their families in a “family emergency.” An example would be a spouse and/or child(ren) is seriously ill and requires extensive hospitalization and/or treatment would receive funds for needs not being met by other means or organizations on a case-by-case basis.

Holiday:

Designed for military personnel and/or their families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, the ASYMCA partners with unit representatives to provide donated gift certificates from the commissary, exchange, local grocery store, phone cards, etc. for those in need. Approximately 708 military personnel and/or their families received certificates in 2007. The ASYMCA also hosts a Holiday Party for military personnel and/or their families. Simple refreshments are served and donated toys, gifts, etc. are distributed. Approximately 600 families participate in this event.

Fallen Heroes:

Beneficiaries and family members of a Marine or Sailor attached to units aboard MCAGCC who are killed in the line of duty receive funding for transportation and lodging to attend Unit Memorial Services aboard MCAGCC or funds for needs not being met by other means or organizations on a case-by-case basis..
