This is a luncheon sponsored by East and West Valley Women's Connection and Stonecroft Ministries to Honor the Spouses of Active Duty and Deployed, and Active Duty Females.

Holiday Program was a great sucess!

In November, we gave gift cards to all the Sergeant Majors aboard the base to give out to their Marines. We got to team up with Interact from the Twentynine Palms High School to give out 50 turkey baskets. We were also able to give out 60 turkeys to anyone that was unable to receive turkeys from the Interact program.

In December, we had our Holiday Toy Program. We started our registration on December 1st and ended it on December 11th 2009. Our priority was for active duty members E-5 and below that were stationed here at Twentynine Palms base. On Saturday December 19th we distributed the toys to the families that signed up. We were able to have a very organized event because of our 50 volunteers. We gave away toys to 406 children and 176 families. We distributed a total of $20,225 worth of gift cards to military families and single Marines stationed here at the base. Our total amount of donated toys was $38,425. It was an amazing year because of our generous donors and volunteers.

Tender Loving Christmas is a community event that we helped with. We were able to get 11 active duty volunteers from 3RD LAR to go to Yucca Valley and help with their food drive on December 5th 2009. Our volunteers helped unload a truck full of food and sort it out in their warehouse. TLC helps those that need it during the Holiday season to receive food.

All service members and federal employees stationed aboard MCAGCC regardless of geographic residence may avail themselves of our services. The majority of our participants reside in the Morongo Basin including MCAGCC, Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, and Morongo Valley.

History

The YMCA movement began in England in 1844; and was transplanted to this country in 1859 at Boston, Massachusetts. The real beginning of extensive service to the military did not begin until April, 1861 during the Civil War when YMCA members voluntarily provided helpful services to the soldiers on the battlefield or relief to prisoners-of-war. The YMCA's peacetime charter to serve military personnel was formally endorsed by the U S Government in 1902 with the construction of facilities on many installations for recreational, sports, and counseling services for service members. Hours Of Operation

Located in Building 192 aboard MCAGCC, the ASYMCA's hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. For special programs or events, the ASYMCA is open to the community after hours and on weekends. Contact us: (760) 830-7481
