9/11 Remembrance:

On Friday September 9th, we displayed 149 American Flags, along with the Marine Corps and Navy Flag in remembrance of the Marines and Sailors who have given all in the name of freedom. This was an opportunity to take a moment of silence and pay our respects to those who have fallen before us. Thank you to the Marines from MCCES,. MWSS 374, 7th Marine Regiment and Delta Co. 3rd AAV, for helping us display our memorial in observance of 9/11.

Holiday Toy Program:

Our annual Holiday Toy Program was held on Saturday December 18th. With the tremendous efforts of our 50 volunteers who were dressed like Elves, we served 270 families and 613 children of the Active Duty aboard the MCAGCC. We had the great fortune of having the Youth Choir from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Chapel, who played beautifully and brought the Christmas spirit to all in attendance. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this a fun, festive and successful event.

Summer Camp

We just finished up with our annual trip to Camp Oakes, Big Bear. We took 86 children of Active Duty parents to Big Bear for 1 week, where they went horseback riding, archery, swimming, and canoeing just to name a few. We want to thank all of our wonderful Active Duty volunteer chaperones for taking time out of their schedule to make a difference in a child’s life. A great time was had by everyone. It was a successful trip because of our volunteers, Thank you!!!!

The Armed Services YMCA partnered with 23rd Dental Company with donations from Dollar Tree. We were able to pass out essential school items for Active Duty family members. They received back packs filled with necessities such as paper, pencils, erasers and more. Thank you 23rd Dental and Dollar Tree for your support for military community.

Soap Box Derby 2011

Nearly 50 racers converged at the top of Cactus Drive and Hilltop Avenue in Twentynine Palms, California to compete in the Armed Services YMCA’s annual Soapbox Derby June 4. Many parents thought that this event was a good way to spent quality time with their children but, this event also can help promote good sportsmanship and raise the esteem of those children involved.
