Operation Hero & Kids Care Club

In addition to our parent child interactive programs we have after school programs for children in grades 2-6. These programs are called Operation Hero and Kids Care Club. Operation Hero is for a ten week session. After the ten weeks is up the children have the option of going to Kids Care Club. Operation Hero helps children with homework, reading and other fun activities.

In Kids Care Club they do community service projects. Below is a picture of Operation Hero’s Nickelodeon Day. Operation Hero was celebrating friendship week and in celebration they had Nickelodeon Day. Some of the activities included were: bobbing for apples, marble and shaving cream contests, making friendship bracelets, and eating ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate syrup with out any utensils. After all of the activities are finished the children are treated to pizza and drinks.

History

The YMCA movement began in England in 1844; and was transplanted to this country in 1859 at Boston, Massachusetts. The real beginning of extensive service to the military did not begin until April, 1861 during the Civil War when YMCA members voluntarily provided helpful services to the soldiers on the battlefield or relief to prisoners-of-war. The YMCA's peacetime charter to serve military personnel was formally endorsed by the U S Government in 1902 with the construction of facilities on many installations for recreational, sports, and counseling services for service members.
